I've been riding with nothing but factory exhausts (i.e., quiet) for near on 20 years. The safety advantages of loud exhausts are overstated. Visibility is where it's at.

Good point, actually. Drivers seem to be able to spot those at quite a distance, even with standard exhausts.

I'm on my 7th bike (all Japanese) with stock pipes. Never had a crash involving another driver.

The people who insist that "loud pipes save lives" tend to be the same people who insist that helmets don't, which is just too stupid for words.

I usually find the idiots with loud pipes annoying and hope someone does run them over

I agree that the "loud pipes save lives" line is nothing more than a lame excuse for the "look at me" folks on the roads. My bike has a set of louder than stock pipes on it, but the bike is far quieter than the ones that the H-D lemmings near me ride. I like the tone and they are less restrictive in terms of performance, but with my engine being as small as it it, the bike is not loud at all.

To answer OP's question, the stock exhaust on many bikes is not loud at all. That is a good place to start your shopping.
