Hello,

I'm joining an asset management firm in Newport Beach, CA. My wife and I live in the west village in NYC and I work in Midtown East (660 Madison Avenue).

New offices are located in fashion island. Looking to rent/purchase a home or condo that is modern with good outdoor areas. Perhaps more importantly looking for solid school system (or access to private) where there are decent restaurants in the area. Can one have access to good dining outside of LA or Napa? Not that familiar with the area.

Thanks!

Joe

my annual pre-tax income is about 500k

wife no work

I'd like to be somewhat close to an area with good food / wine / restaurants / near the coast.

I'd second this. Plenty of nice places to eat/drink. You may still feel the urge to go up to LA once in a while for dining, but Newport should keep you content for the most part.

Thank you - I appreciate the suggestions. My new office is on Newport Center Drive - so that would be close.

Looking to first rent and then buy in a year or so.

Possible to get something nice for under $10/month rent?

Sure. But some if it depends on your definition of nice. If you are looking for a condo (since family is small) to rent you will find your money goes further than in the West Village. Unless maybe you are looking for something right off the beach.

It's definitely possible, depending on how large of a home and where you want to be. Here are some options under $10k/month.

Interesting. Probably will be moving in March of 2014 so who knows if these are available.
