I know my friend mentioned several years ago he went to get a new smart phone and got dinged $40 recycling fee?

Is this common on all electronics? If so what are the costs per item or website please?

I would rather wait and buy my new tv in CA, but I am in CO for black Friday and if the recycling fees are ridiculous I may just buy it in CO and take my chances on damage in transit.

That seems low. I want to say when we bought our tv a few years ago it was $25 (42" tv).

I depends on the contract your local garbage company has signed with a recycler. Get on the phone to your gargage company and follow up from there. Ours has occasional free days where you can bring elex in for free.

No, I never heard of that before. I would say FU and not get the new phone and just buy it on ebay. Then throw my old phone in the trash (NOT recycling).

I'm never paid this "recycling fee" in my entire life. Never even heard of such a ridiculous thing!

You could also toss the old phone into the trash can at mcdonalds if you're really paranoid.

However, best thing of all if to sell the broken thing on ebay. Someone will buy it, then not only is there no fee but you actually make money! Seriously!
