I grew up in Huntington Harbor so I would either ride my bike or drive my beater car to Sunset Beach by the Jack in the Box for some free parking while I hit the waves. In my high school summers, I would purchase a season pass for city parking to do some surfing and volleyball games. I never thought the cost of parking with all that prohibitive until now. I'm guessing the city jacked up all the parking rates (including meters) along the downtown area. At the price they are asking, I would contemplate just parking a few blocks away and catching a ride from a buddy or Uber.

If the city wanted to provide a better solution that having folks j-walk across PCH, they should have an auxiliary lot with open-air shuttles running ever 15 minutes or based on demand. At this point in my life, I just avoid Huntington Beach all together...other than visiting my mom.

I rarely go to the beach, so I don't mind paying for parking near the beach so the kids and I don't have to lug things across PCH. Plus, like someone said, free street parking will be hard to find in the summer. How much is parking in the beach parking lot, though? $2 an hour?
