Does it have to be exactly Huntington Beach?

IIRC, the ENTIRE is pretty safe! Including the Bolsa Chica state beach.

But for just "take a chair & read", you may want to try Seal Beach. It is far less crowded & much more convenient to find free parking on the street. I also like the small town feel of Seal Beach.

I think just about anywhere at Huntington Beach city or state beach is safe. We ride our bikes down there all the time (year round) and never had any issues of feeling unsafe. There are always a few people around so it's rarely empty.

Just don't stay after dark. Common sense dictates not to go to a totally isolated area, no matter how safe the area seems, esp if you are female.
