Where are some good places to stay for vacation around santa cruz, santa barbara, laguna beach? I have been looking all over google for options but can't seem to find what I want. I looked into vacation homes and there was no availability. We don't want to just be at the beach we want to have other activities as well. Also, what is great for kid to visit? The more info the better

Thanks

I wouldn't suggest any of those areas for a family vacation. Those areas, especially Santa Barbara and Laguna Beach are more for a couples getaway. Lots of shopping, art galleries, restaurants...not really much for kids. You should probably look at with one of the theme parks like Disneyland or head to San Diego. A place like San Diego has great beaches but still plenty for families with kids to do.

One thought is that you could stay in Laguna Beach and, if time permits, travel up to visit Disneyland (about 27 miles) and also go to San Diego (about 80 miles) for a day trip.

BTW, while we are not exactly a hot spot for tourism, Aliso Viejo (AV) is located right next to Laguna Beach (the beach itself is 10 minutes away) and you could stay at the very popular Renaissance ClubSport Hotel in Aliso Viejo while making your rounds to Laguna Beach, Disneyland and San Diego.

Aliso Viejo | - Leisure Sports Inc.

There is also this (in or near AV):

VRBO - Aliso Viejo Vacation Rentals

AV is about 15 minutes away from John Wayne Airport via the toll road. You might want to look at Dana Point and San Clemente, as well. They are actual coastal towns.

How long is your trip?

I don't know anything about Santa Cruz. But we've been to Santa Barbara a few times and we live near Laguna Beach. We just moved here from Florida 2 years ago.

I could definitely see kids having fun in Laguna Beach. The drive to Disney Land isn't too far and there is also the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana if they get bored of going to the beach.

I'd recommend checking out the calmer, cleaner beach in front of the Montage Resort in South Laguna once you've experienced the main beach.

Did you try AirBNB or VRBO for vacation rentals. AirBNB has become our first place to look before we resort to VRBO or hotels. Especially since we have a big dog.

Upper Newport Bay has a nice little hidden museum that is great for kids.

Newport Dunes camp ground. Call up a RV rental place and they drop the trailer off do everything all you do is show up. El Monte RV is there all the time. Safe, beach area, rent boats cruise the Newport harbor, kayaks paddle surf, summer time they have concerts. Close to Fashion Island, Disney not too far,

Thank you everyone. We have been really busy and may not be able to go this year. But this will help for when we plan in the future.
