What about just get a place in Costa Mesa? Google "backbay loop, Irvine" This loop is very scenic and mostly on bike specific trails and you can hop on the route right from costa mesa.

If you are a mountain biker, I would say get a place in Aliso Viejo because of the riding in Aliso Woods. But if you are a bike path rider, Aliso doesn't offer much and you can't ride the bike trail all the way down to the beach because you can not get past the gate at the water treatment plant. When you are down here visiting, go ride the backbay loop at sunset (11 mile loop), there isn't another road bike trail as pretty as this one in OC.

OP, you might want to think twice about cycling into Laguna Beach, as the city has a very high cyclist accident and death rate, even for experienced cyclists. Pedestrians are also involved in an unusually high number of injuries and fatalities there.

Another cyclist death prompts call for more bike safety - The Orange County Register

“It’s staggering to imagine that this very place has one of the worst fatality records for bicycles and pedestrians in Southern California,” Marcus-Colvin said. “It is simply unimaginable that the city does not have one dedicated bike lane.”

Not to be an alarmist, but traffic is crazy in Laguna Beach, and by no way are only visitors injured/killed as the potential for danger affects all cyclists and pedestrians. The last fatality was a Laguna Beach resident.

Some of the pedestrian accidents are said to be due to the fact that many are distracted by their electronic devices as they cross PCH. Motorists are not always to blame.

I want to sincerely thank everyone for the valuable information! I found a place in Laguna beach located in California Cove community and I decided that I will work in Laguna and not have to make the trip to Costa Mesa. Thanks for taking your time to write! I am so excited about hiking the Big bend trail and seeing the many new adventures that await me in CA. THANKS!
