I've tried CL but there doesn't seem to be too many. We're looking at the Riverside, Anaheim, Orange County area, and for September. Budget is about $1500

Are you looking for a yearly rental, or just one month?

Does it have to be furnished? There aren't a lot of apts that take pets, from what I hear. The small complex I used to manage didn't allow any.

I used to live at Orangewood Villas in the city of Orange. It's a large complex that was very well maintained and managed (at the time) by the owner's daughter. They allow pets for an extra charge. I just looked at their website and they have a 1-bed upstairs unit for $1245. It's unfurnished, though.

How about renting an unfurnished apartment and either leasing the furniture, or buying cheap "throw-away" (or ready to donate) stuff if the move is only temporary?

So you are hoping to find a landlord dumb enough to furnish an apartment and then let a renter bring in their dog to pizz all over their furniture? Nice!
