Hi I am a recent grad who has recently accepted a job in Irvine. I am relocating from LA. I am looking for (preferably) a studio, but I don't know which areas are safe. For me, safe trumps nice/fancy/new. I want a studio for the kitchen. I considered renting a room, but most listing want someone who will only do light cooking, which I prefer to cook, to save money. My budget is $900-$1100, which I know is very hard to find for a studio in this area. I've found some $1100 which seem good. Also I have found a few $900-$1000 but not sure about the safety of the area.

For example: 841 W. La Habra Blvd., La Habra, CA 90631-9035
Or: 2175 S. Mallul Drive, Anaheim, CA 92802

What rent expectations should I have for a studio, in general? Worse case, I could always go back to looking at rooms.

Thanks!

Fountain Valley has a lot of townhouses that have a studio apartment above the garages. Most homeowners rent them and usually includes utilities, cost runs around 8-900. And FV is a lot closer to Irvine. Most places have a ad board at the entrance to advertise.

From my online research, the lowest I have been able to find that close to Irvine is ~1050. You think I would have more luck going to check these ad boards in person? Also, do you know of a place to start if I did go in person?

There are a few complexes on Brookhurst south of the 405 past Claim Jumper ( north side of the street), one on Euclid north of Slater before FV hospital by Costco Fountain Valley. Look on rentjungle.com sometimes studios get advertized there. i know lots of people don't advertise either they simply don't know how or are older people who aren't internet savvy and its word of mouth or they post a want card on the ad board.
Don't discount Tustin. It may cost a bit more but you'll spend it in rent or fuel. Might as well have a short commute.

Just make sure if you're not 100% happy and you get a funny feeling don't rent it.
Driving from LaHabra to Irvine will/can add a lot of travel time and higher gas bill. I would look to live as close as possible to work. Good luck. I'll swing by one if the places ( it's on my way home) tomorrow and see if any studios are advertized

Thanks for the great suggestions! I'll look into Tustin some more then.

Wow that's really amazing of you to help me out like that. I'll probably drive down and look for ads like you suggested in a few days, but your help would really give me a head start.
