Originally posted this is LA....they recommended I post here

Hello!

My fiancé and I are thinking of relocating and around Santa Fe Springs has come up as one of the options as my company has a location there (McMaster Carr -- 9630 Norwalk Boulevard, Santa Fe Springs, CA 90670). We have both grown up in Chicago and want to get rid of the nasty winters and start new lives being married. We are thinking late 2016 and were wondering cost of living, things to do, raising a family (currently no children), good neighborhoods, colleges, beaches, night life (I am 26 and my fiancé is 22 so very important). Let me know if we left something out. Thank you!

BTW..
1. Budget: Currently we pay 1000 not including utilities. (Can pay more)
2. House/Condo/Townhome: Anything
3. Employment Status: I currently work for McMaster Carr and my fiancé works for Target.
5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle: Mix of the two
6. Easy access to public transit, important or not? Not important

After recommending certain areas, my fiancé and I will plan a visit and check everything out of course.

A $1000 should get you a nice garage, but not much more.

Sorry guys, I keep writing this wrong, we currently pay 1000 but can pay a lot more, currently just saving up for a wedding. Together our income is about 90000/annually

I'm not sure what you're asking. Fly out for a long weekend, drive around areas near where you're going to work. Pull up Craig's list and you can see rentals.

The beach cities cost more, but are more fun. Come out and see for yourself. It was 75 today.

That city has some ok parts, and some seedy parts with Latino gang members. I was just there for business a fair amount of logistic, light industrial, and some office/business parks.

Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed

I would pick Cerritos over SFS if I could, La Mirada would be better too. There about 9 miles apart.

Before the mods blast me for putting up a competing demographic site CD needs to update their stats they are outta date IMO.

I used to work for McMaster Carr in SFS and it can be a questionable area but is also pretty industrial. I would suggest looking at Brea, Fullerton, Seal Beach or Huntington Beach for your age range. You'll have a bit of a commute but would live in a decent area. There are Targets all over the place if your fiancé plans to transfer for his job. Good luck.

Awesome loveorangecounty thanks for the comment. I definitely don't mind having a commute, currently I drive 40 minutes to work. From the looks of it we will probably be making a trip to check out a few of these cities this year (Fullerton, Brea, etc) besides for the location anything else I should know about that will change dramatically from moving to Cali from Illinois? Thanks!

Yes, leave your boots, gloves, and parkas behind. You won't need them here

And for the love of G-d, please stop saying "Cali" or you'll never fit in.
