Hi all

I am moving with my wife and 2 year old to OC from Denver, CO. My current salary here is 140K and am being offered 170K in OC. Considering the taxes, I think I will be taking home what I take in CO right now.
I am thinking of renting either a 3 bedroom apartment or a condo. I looked at Irvine rental properties and see that average rent is $3000/month. I would rather pay mortgage of the same amount!
Which surrounding areas should I look for a rental. My office is at Jamboree St. I am willing to drive upto 30mins. PLease advise.

Check out Tustin, its right next to Irvine so you'll only need to drive locally, which can take up to 30 mins at peak times given the lights and the amount of people trying to get out of Irvine. Lake Forrest is a little further south but prices there should be reasonable. With S.Cal traffic, anything further and you may be pulling your hair out during peak traffic times. Good luck. Oh, and Costa Mesa has lower rents and you're not too far either.

Costa Mesa has low rents because it's turning into a barrio.

Check out North Tustin, which I think is actually Unincorporated OC but much nicer than Tustin proper.
