Hi everyone! :-)

My husband may be getting a job in Ontario. We are from Michigan and are looking for an area around Ontario that is safe, family friendly with good schools. (Kids are 6,4 & 1)

Thank you so much for any insight you can share! :-)

Post in Riverside, San Bernardino forum. The area I recommend are Claremont, north upland, or rancho cucamonga. The general rule is the closer you are to the 210 freeway, the better.

Not sure if you will see this, but the LA Times just did a story today about Ontario having the worst air pollution in SoCal. Ontario borders 2 major freeways--the 10 and 60 and lots of trucks travel along those routes. I know you didn't ask about air quality, but I personally wouldn't live there.

I tried to talk my ex-neighbor out of buying a house in Ontario after I found out the house is 3 blocks from the 10 freeway. Lung disease, heart problems...just not good. Her daughter was around 3 years at that time and maybe it's unrelated, but the little girl has asthma now. Again, maybe it's not because of the diesel soot and vehicle exhaust, but I wouldn't chance it.

If your husband ends up taking the job, you guys may consider living in another city.

The city of Ontario is big. The east side is covered with warehouses with lots of trucks. The west side a round Moutain and Euclid is far from the warehouses and a great area. I live in the area and it is beautiful.

Personally, I love the houses on 6th street between mountain and Euclid. In fact, any house above holt between mountain and euclid is nice. Too bad the school district sucks.

Yes that is true. Some of the schools like Edison aren't too bad. The district also has some charter schools in the area that are good. Think the schools are skewed negatively due to kids from lower income areas around Holt.
