So we are thinking of switching from Time Warner Cable to Verizon Fios. It's not just running cables. He's installing a box outside the house and the unit needs to plug into an electrical source. My outdoor electrical outlet will not suffice, so he wants to drill a hole into the house so it can plug indoors. Ugh.

I'm sure it's no big deal. I'm sure all the Fios homes have had a hole drilled. So why am I fussing? I just don't want a hole in my house.

Have you had Fios installed and how did they plug in this exterior box?

I had it in DC and it is far better than anything else. Endure the pain, it is worth it. The 'net speed was very fast, the remote interface is very user friendly and the bundle price blows my current bundle out of the water. I wish we had Fios here.

Yes, I have it that's what they needed to do. The outlet was inside, so they had to come through the wall. Congratulations, FiOS rocks.

Fast replies! I just came back to delete the post, because I talked with the installer some more and feel much better about it. It's a small hole (maybe size of nickel) and there's things to cover the hole up and conduit covers to cover up the exterior cable so it's not just dangling from the facia board. He has to go into the attic too, which I don't mind.

We've been with Time Warner since we were married. Husband worked for them, so we were getting all free service--spoiled! He left the job and now we're paying customers (joined the rat pack) and boy, they nickel and dime you as much as they can. I saw on here that Fios was finally available in my city and I kept getting fliers, so I nagged the husband to look into it.

They tried to switch speed or something on us, but the hubby straightened that out. Verizon had a deal where they gave us a $300 Visa or something card, but they've upped it to $350 now. Good time to switch if you can.

Okay, long rant. Thanks, guys and I hope Fios is as good as they say.

FYI , silicon caulking works excellantly in sealing and waterproofing against insects and moisture.

Which I have plenty of since I had to re-caulk my bathtub . Verizon actually did a fantastic job running and hiding the cables. Thanks for the advice!
