I lived in Huntington Beach for two years (from Philly). If I were your age, I'd move to LA (Hermosa Beach, Santa Monica, etc.). There's a ton more nightlife and many more East Coast transplants there. A young friend of mine from Philly lived in Hermosa Beach and went surfing every day. He eventually moved back when he got married (housing and schools). But even if you only stay a few years, I think the experience is worth it. Every person your age that I know from the East Coast who has moved to that area has LOVED it, even if only temporary. You cannot beat the weather, activities and scenery. I miss it every day.

Being from NY, even the trendy neighborhoods with night life options are going to seem suburban to you. Seeing your income and lifestyle, I would consider coastal LA (esp. santa monica) over OC. LA is much more cosmopolitan and you're likely to run into more people your age making that kind of money. In OC you would be a very big fish in a not very big pond, which you may like, but the small pond may start to feel a little too small at times.

Default Young professional in OC

Yes....you will definitely welcome the space down here! The Peninsula is great but defiitely a transition area for recent college grads. There are some nice loft style condos available in Irvine that are likely very close to where you'll work if you are in the financial industry. Newport or Irvine/Newport border is the best place for young professionals in my opinon...lots of them aronud here with lots to do. Check out www.reasonstoenvy.com for happy hour ideas and hang outs for local young professionals.

Don't move to Irvine. Very sterile.

Newport, Belmont Shore, or Manhattan Beach. Pick the one closest to where you work.
