Do you know of anyone you know personally that have been forced to move Inland/out of state for an affordable housing market?

I am seeing very high wage earners shocked at how little they can buy in OC. That is almost the same thing, isn't it?

My parents (father grew up in Santa Ana, my mother in Huntington Beach) in 1986 to Corona, my brother and I in tow. We moved from Santa Ana. My father has been back in OC since 1991, and will never leave again.

Every single one of my cousins (father's side) grew up in OC. Some have moved to Corona, Chino Hills, Rancho Cucamonga, etc. Some have made their way back to OC, even at a decreased standard of living. All are dying to be back in OC if they aren't already there.

This is not a new phenomenon. It has been going on since at least the mid-late 1970's.

All the people I know who have moved were either adult children of longtime residents, or renters. Not homeowners.

Sure, I know renters who have moved out to Corona/Chino/Rancho Cucamonga etc. in the hopes of buying a house there. Some of them have come back, saying owning a giant house in the desert is overrated.

People who were lucky enough to buy in OC during down times in the market are mostly staying put.

Yep mainly renters or the young who can't afford a home in OC now. It was vastly different prior to about 1990. The 1980's were a transition period.

I'm priced out by choice. I'm unwilling to spend 675,000 for 1100 sq ft stucco box.
