As a temporary measure they had paid RV and trailer storage there. As far as I hear, this is now being phased out.

interesting... it's not on topic but people that say that we don't live in a desert are delusional. I see a lot of brown in that pic.

That's a LOT of RVs...

So how come it was never converted to a commercial airport?

there was talk of doing that. It went up for vote and it didn't pass. I think it's too close to a lot of houses. They made it a great park which is pretty much a disaster. Now they are building houses on the land to make our traffic and infrastructure even worse.

Yes and it has an extremely short runway and requires planes to take off almost straight up due to noise abatement rules. I know a pilot who absolutely does not like flying in and out of SNA. El Toro would have given them 4 runways instead of 2 and much longer ones. Plus there was no homes around it.

Lol. That was a huge political fight in OC over that. Basically lots of rich people live in Irvine and surrounding area. They didn't want a airport and money talks.
