Give your advice on traffic and roads... (Irvine, Tustin: city hall, houses)

...to a place that many Californias are moving to!

I live in a tiny little art town (out of state) and the Chamber of Commerce and the others (at the city buildings) are doing a very stupid thing.

They are trying to add 30,000 houses to a rural area, which would cause quaint 2 lane country roads to become 5 lane gridlock highways. The citizens are just sick... many whom are CA natives from long ago. Keep in mind 30,000 houses means something like 100,000 people and 60,000 cars... (30,000 is the number of proposed in just one area.) and this is not in the city area, they are plopping it in whats now rural.

What advice would YOU give to those people at City Hall who pushing for this? What do you see on your roads?

I know that "you cant go back" once you do something like this.

The five lanes you mentioned will only come after many years of stand-still traffic on two lane roads. The city hall is likely excited about the prospect of new tax revenue and will be very sad to discover that the new development won't be a free meal, but rather will cost them quite a bit in infrastructure upgrades. Like most human beings they'll spend some time in denial before responding to the increased needs of the community.

I live in a fairly congested (by OC standards) area near the border of Tustin and Irvine...the road infrastructure here is already pretty good. But in the last few years, a rather large development has gone up where a Marine base used to be (Tustin Legacy) which added something like 5000 homes to the area. Despite nice wide roads with good speed limits, this area is generally subject to "gridlock" during the peak rush hours, much more so than used to be. Some of it is due to all of the construction traffic, but when the cement trucks leave, I'm sure it will still be bad.

Your results may vary...but not much much (would be my guess). Good luck
