Considering/hoping for a move back out there, but now I'm retired. For my health insurance, I have Medicare Primary and United Healthcare (AARP) Supplemental. Does anyone know of any problems with doctors in CA accepting Medicare? I had heard of those problems here in Florida but I haven't experienced it. I need a primary care physician, a cardiologist, a gyno, and a pain management specialist. And I was wondering how strict their laws are for controlled substances. I take a controlled substance for my back pain and it was definitely an issue trying to find a doctor in Florida, with their ridiculous over-the-top drug laws that do nothing but punish the legitimate pain patient. If you think this would be better in the Retirement Forum, I can move it. Thanks in advance for your help!

Given that demographers say that Orange County is graying, there most be a ton of them. So, people may make recommendations.

In the meantime, one strategy would be to check the specialty list at Saddleback Memorial Health System-Laguna Hills, since it is located directly across the street from the Laguna Woods retirement community:
Specialties & Services at Saddleback Memorial | MemorialCare Health System | Orange County | Los Angeles County

Good Luck

Check Hoag's network, as well:

I have some friends and neighbors who use Medicare and can assure you that there are plenty of doctors. I can ask them if you'd like.

Whether you use Hoag or the Mission Medical Heritage Group might depend on where you live and which insurance group you have. For example, I have rarely used Hoag (only once in Newport Beach for a specialized procedure). Instead, I use mostly Mission Medical Heritage Group with coverage from Laguna Beach (Hospital), Mission Viejo (Hospital), and loads of medical facilities in Laguna Niguel, Foothill Ranch, Mission Viejo (and points further south -- San Clemente).

If you have Mission, here are the doctors available.

I suspect the drug laws here are far better than Florida, but am not sure.
