I currently live in a nice apartment in the upper east side of Manhattan, NYC. I like it here, however I'm getting tired of the city. There is no way I see myself living here for a long time.

It's always been my dream to have a family and live in a nice suburban city in Orange County, CA.

Right now I'm a college student and I was thinking of transferring to a college over there. Maybe UCI.

Is this crazy? Should I just stay here in NYC? I don't know what to do If you were me would you do this?

Are you aware of the non-resident tuition policies?
Are you going to rent an apartment? What is your budget?
What are you studying?

Yes I'm aware. Right now I'm paying $2300 a month in rent. I attend NYU and the overall cost is just too much. I'm studying pre-med. My budget for an apartment would be anywhere from $1500-$2000 for just me, which is reasonable right?

Do you have a spouse and plan in place for those kids yet? LOL.
Why not wait until you are done with school, find a mate, get a job then move here?

As someone who moved here from NYC, I will tell you it is going to be a major shift in lifestyle.

If I were single living in NYC there is NO WAY I would move to OC.

I'd say, move while you're single and you can, and see if you like it. It's a lot harder to move a family. If you hate it, you can always move back to NY when you're finished with school. I have a friend from NYC who moved to OC for school and loved it. If you're tired of the city, Orange County might be just what you need. Can't really know until you try...

I'm originally from Manhattan too and considering moving to OC as well. I would say visit OC and if you really like it then move there. It's so much easier when you are single and you could definitely afford it with your budget. Take advantage, it's your life, live it up!

If you think you would like the lifestyle better in OC then do it.

My only issue would be moving from an area with millions of single people, to a predominately family oriented location.

If you want out of the cold and a cheaper rent, then it would be great here. I would also consider UCSD for pre-med. Its a phenomenal program, only its a way different lifestyle than NYC. I went there, but changed my program from pre-med. Are you on facebook?

I agree with the posters who are saying to do it while your still young. If your tired of the city but don't want to move to the boon docks, then Orange County is a great option. You have all the big city amenities but you don't feel so confined. UC Irvine is a great school. Southern Orange County is definitely more family oriented. If you don't mind a roughly 20 mile drive there is always downtown Fullerton which is great for singles in their 20's. I don't think your crazy for wanting something new, I did the same thing. Best of luck in your decisions.
