The ultra far leftists at OC Weekly paint Anaheim as a villain for questioning the impact of a proposed homeless shelter, which the ACLU and others are pushing OC cities into building. The truth is NO city in OC wants a homeless shelter except one city that pretends to want one there.

Suppose the Anaheim shelter is cancelled like the critics want. What is the alternative plan, to leave them alone? That wouldn't solve anything and from a city-design point of view, I think riverfront property should be cleaned up and built up to become city assets, like the projects along the Los Angeles River.

The location at 1000 N. Kraemer Place, as mentioned in the article, looks reasonably isolated on two of its four sides and is located at the edge of a business district where people using the shelter could hypothetically have a small chance of finding work, maybe moving out of homelessness. It seems to be as ideal as possible for a shelter, but maybe I'm just not familiar enough with all of the trouble that could come from that. If necessary, take some of the shelter's budget and put it toward paying for a full time OC Sheriff presence in the vicinity.

Then again, I am assuming conditions at that shelter that are conductive to helping reasonable people out of homelessness. If the shelter is just another band-aid for collecting and isolating the symptoms of deeper issues, then I question its big picture usefulness. At minimum though, it would definitely reduce the homeless presence in other parts of Anaheim.

About the Laguna Beach case, I support occasional homeless sweeps to keep that specific city clean and wouldn't want to see it become like Venice there. On the other hand, I fully acknowledge that I have my own arbitrary standards and opinions about what cities are better suited for the homeless to be in to find the best chance of getting themselves out. The ACLU probably doesn't see things that way so it is understandable that they would argue for the homeless to have an equal right to access all cities.

A lot fell on hard times, trying to get back on their feet, mental illness, bad addictions or as someone put it, some never had a chance even in the womb. I'd say a whole lot possibly majority come from out of state.

Well that sounds pretty accurate to me although I know if no statistics that back this up. I feel badly for the homeless on a human level, but I can tell you I wouldn't want to live near them.
