Is moving from a beach resort town to the Orange Curtain considered insane? Considering fantastic job opportunity but we don't know what neighborhoods we would like. Want to avoid McMansions but have a pool with a decent sized yard for our dogs. Looking up to 1.5mil and hope to get a nice views. What towns or neighborhoods have good grocery shopping and restaurants, kind of a smaller town feel? Anything to avoid?

It's hardly insane to move from Carlsbad.

Where will you be working?

We live in Carlsbad now but I'm from OC and it's very similar. And with your budget you will have many options.

Laguna Niguel, San Clemente, Dana Point if you want to stay closer to the ocean. Coto De Caza, Mission Viejo, Ladera Ranch, Orange, Villa Park, Yorba Linda, Anaheim Hills and North Tustin if you want to be more inland.

If you're looking to live by the coast, you can get some good value in Laguna Niguel and Dana Point. For instance, check the listings below.

I'd also potentially consider the Sunset Beach area of Huntington Beach. Not quite as much bang for your buck, but a few homes for sale under $1.5M.

Why not just skip Orange County and live like a god in Scottsdale?

Pretty much any town in Orange County with that budget.

If you're working in Placentia, I'd recommend North Tustin, Villa Park, Anaheim Hills, and Yorba Linda.
