Yes that’s true until you get outside of the immediate area, then it’s the opposite for some strange reason. As an example, going “up north” you can take “the” 405 to “the” 5 and then continue north on just “I-5.” You can also take “the” 101 to Ventura, but then take simply “101” to SLO.

Regarding the beach towns in SoCal. How much does the pollution and waste from across the border affect the water quality of the beaches?

Check the San Diego forum. Right near the border it is a problem.

Almost as bad as referring to Missouri as "Mizzou."

While the southern-most US beach (Imperial Beach) is fairly polluted from the open sewer that is Tijuana, its s buffered by all the diesel and pollutants churned into the waters by the U.S. Naval base a wee bit further north. Yes, many of Sandy Eggo's beaches are not the healthiest, but they are over 100 miles south of Orange County.

Funny, you're right. I never really noticed it, but once you get above Santa Clarita, the brain automatically starts calling it I-5 again.

So we finally came to an agreement on the offer and looks like I will be heading out there the first week of June. I will be working in Newport Beach but looking at Huntington Beach to live since they have more dog friendly apartments. Can anyone give me the rundown of how Huntington Beach is compared to Costa Mesa which also where I am looking. Also any advice would be greatly appreciated

Also I will quit being last and abbreviating cities and states.

Mizzou refers to the university.

We lived here: The Beach House Apartments - Newport Beach - CA

Probably before you were born, but this was a nice location if you are working on the peninsula. (Newport beach also extends up by the airport). You can ride a bicycle to the beach from here, coming back is a bit of a workout (uphill all the way). The apartments are poorly built but pretty affordable for the location.
