Perhaps Irvine would be better then? Work near the intersection of 5, 22, and 57.

That's a very central location; you could almost live anywhere. People either love Irvine or hate it. I'm not a fan; I find it congested and soulless. But it is certainly very safe. Personally, I'd go for North Tustin, East Orange (Orange Park Acres), or Villa Park before Irvine.

As you're looking, keep in mind that the general trend of traffic in OC is from north to south in the morning, reversed in the evening. So it's better to be south of your work location than north.

Irvine Is 50 shades of beige. I used to live by Orange Park Acres. Orange was the only city I could bare to live in. I also liked downtown Orange

Thanks for this info. Will pass on this info to our family member relocating there. Old town Orange with town square looks cute and seems to have some interesting restaurants nearby.

It used to be all antique shops but there are only a few left; most have been converted to cafes. I enjoy the Urth Caffe there.

Certain pockets of Costa Mesa are nice. Particularly the small areas above the 405.

Costa Mesa is considerably cooler than Orange. I was in both cities yesterday. About 10 degree difference.

Yesterday was the hottest day of a heat wave. In extreme heat, it gets noticeably cooler as you leave the inland areas and approach the beach. Normally, the differential is not that great.

That's not true. I lived in Irvine for years and visited my friends in Orange. In the summer it's typically a 10 degree difference.

Yes. The summer can be very hot. That's what I said, you get these 10-degree (sometimes more) differences when it's very hot.

But the average annual summer high temperature is only 4 degrees higher in Orange than in Costa Mesa. And for the rest of the year, it's more like a 2-degree difference. For example, the annual high in December is 69 in Orange, 67 in Costa Mesa. So I think it's a stretch to say Costa Mesa is "considerably cooler" most of the time.
