Hello,

My family and I are looking to relocate to Orange County. We are coming from the east coast where buses are usually available for elementary, middle and high school students. Does anyone know which school districts in Orange County provide school buses? We are looking into Mission Viejo, Huntington Beach and Irvine area but open to any good school districts. We do not know anyone in OC so car pooling wouldn't work for us and my husband and I both have to work to afford the high COL. Are there private buses that provide students pickup and drop off? Any information is appreciated.

Some districts do have bus service, usually about 300 bucks a month

Lot of districts gutted bus service during the recession. Many kids switched to riding the OCTA public bus. My high school in Mission Viejo went from 22 bus routes to 4 in just one year. Fast forward to 2020 and they are down to just one bus route. Declining enrollment in the school districts due to an aging population in South OC and the inability of young people of child bearing years to start families in South OC due to high cost of living is reducing the per student funding, so they are cutting costs like buses and some faculty.

The city of Mission Viejo provides a free shuttle to help connect high school students to Mission Viejo High and Capistrano Valley High: https://cityofmissionviejo.org/sites...oute-times.pdf

There are a lot of nice neighborhoods within walking distance of Mission Viejo High School. My kids walked to school with their friends.

Capistrano United School District is huge and comprised of most cities in South Orange County, In some cases, a city may fall into several different school districts.

Founded in 1965, Capistrano Unified encompasses 200 square miles in seven cities and a portion of the unincorporated area of Orange County. With 63 campuses, it is the largest employer in south Orange County. The District includes all or part of the cities of San Clemente, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano, Laguna Niguel, Aliso Viejo, Mission Viejo and Rancho Santa Margarita, and the communities of Las Flores, Coto de Caza, Dove Canyon, Ladera Ranch, Sendero/Rancho Mission Viejo, and Wagon Wheel.
Obviously, we all see school buses making pickups, but I don't know how students qualify. A small bus often stops directly in front of my neighbor's house, but I've always assumed that the child has special needs, but I don't know. I also see large buses making stops just outside of my development.

You can check the Capistrano Unified School District website to see their rules governing transportation:

People form carpools (most popular), have relatives pick up / drop off kids, drop them off super early, or pick up late et..

I've also seen kids as young as 10 ride the public bus, et.

It's OC. All the moms are SAHMs; they don't work.

Haven't you seen the Real Housewives show?
