OC has reached a new high in daily COVID-19 deaths (10) and hospitalizations (253) reported. Of the 253, 93 people are in ICU. I don't know the cause, but it makes you wonder if more people are ignoring safety precautions?

I look at that page every day, and noticed that there were 0 deaths reported on 5/18 and 5/19 so I wonder if there was a lag going on there.

5 of the 10 deaths were nursing home deaths. Of the 98 total deaths, 69 are over 65, only 15 were under 55. I am willing to bet the vast majority of the ICU cases are over 65, maybe over 75.

I also noticed that gap and had initially hoped that we were on some sort of permanent decline, but this was tempered by the realization that 5/18 hospitalizations were still on the ascent; with several more people in ICU as compared to 5/17.

Not the news I want to see...hope the consistent/permanent decline happens soon...

Oh, for sure. I was shocked to see deaths listed at 10 yesterday. But then I thought, there is no difference between the last three days being 0, 0, 10 and 3, 3, 4, and no one would have been shocked by the second one. A little disappointed, maybe, but it wouldn't have been newsworthy at all.

With 14 COVID-19 deaths reported today in OC, an all-time record, there is truly something new and concerning occurring. I suspect that some people are ignoring social distancing guidelines. Anecdotally, I see it more often than in the recent past. I can't imagine how bad things may be two weeks after Memorial Day if this trend continues.

There are also 247 hospitalizations and 89 people are in ICU.

Kudos to Laguna Woods because their total COVID-19+ case number of 8 has been stable for some time. As a retirement community, they're obviously at high risk, but they are doing something right.
