Yes, there are many non-essential stores still open. Places like juice stores, ice cream shops, donut shops, etc.. Parking lots are still pretty full.

This is in HB.

I can verify those pictures from the above story that some beaches here have normal crowds, maybe even more so than normal for this time of year.

Food is considered essential. It's not that easy to make generalizations about what food is essential and what is not, so as long as they are doing takeout or delivery only and not eat-in, restaurants and other shops that sell food are open. You might not think of ice cream or donuts essential but they are still classified as food. That is not the kind of "non-essential" business that is closed.

The crowds on the beach are a little too thick, but I get why everyone wanted to go out because we had a couple of really nice, partially sunny days after a couple of weeks of chilly rain. People should make an effort to be farther apart, but it's still not all that risky to be outside moving around in the sunshine and fresh air. Going to buy food is probably a lot more risky because of all the touching involved, but of course, that's "essential."

Sad.

Orange County reports first coronavirus death as total cases hit 152
https://www.ocregister.com/2020/03/2...ported-deaths/

24, 2020 at 3:37 p.m. | UPDATED: March 24, 2020 at 7:17 p.m.

Quote:
An Orange County man in his 70s with underlying health conditions has died of the novel coronavirus, the county’s first reported death from the disease.

The county confirmed the death Tuesday evening, March 24, in a news release, but did not disclose where the man lived or the name of the hospital where he had received treatment.

“Our hearts go out to the family,” Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do said. “Any time we lose a life it’s a big loss to the community. This will just strengthen our resolve as a community to work together, exercise common sense and protect each other.”

Supervisors Chairwoman Michelle Steel said in a statement that she was “very saddened” by news of the man’s death and sends prayers to his family and friends...

While experts say the virus is most likely to cause severe illness in older adults, most of Orange County’s cases – 87 as of Tuesday – have been in people aged 18 to 49, according to the county health care agency. Just one case was reported in a person under 18.

Orange County has updated its emergency park plan. Generally, as of today, it looks like parking lots are closed, but cyclists, pedestrians and equestrians (where allowed in the past) are still welcome to use County parks.

These things keep changing. Check this for the latest:

Some beaches may be closed:

California has published list of parking lot closures at specified parks and it is said to subject to change.:

Check with your local stores. Re-supply is usually in the early mornings and there may be a line.

I heard there are a few cases in HB. I would not surprised if there were quite a bit more.

I suspect that there may be cases in several OC cities, but there may also be some clustering, as well. I guess we will see this Friday.

BTW, the total # of confirmed COVID-19 cases in OC reached 187 today, 03/25/20.
