Today I received a call from *+1 (657) 622-6878‬ at 5:59pm
I had missed the call before calling back I googled the number
and it came up as the Santa Ana Courthouse, I then called back
at 6:06 after going through a couple prompts to all the departments
They came back as closed hours from 8-4 but also closed due to
The COVID-19 outbreak. I’m trying to figure out the reason for the
call or whether it is legit or not, no voicemail left either. Any ideas on
What the call could be for?

It sounds like a spoofed phone number to me.

657-622-XXXX IS the OC Court system's phone numbering system.

When the 657 area code overlay came into being a few years ago, the court jumped on it to enable this numbering system. So, if I recall correctly (I have forgotten much), I believe the 657-622 is for the entire court system.

The last four digits all mean something:

The first digit in the last four was for offices. I think one was for judges. Different ones were for Bailiffs, Clerks, etc. Others were for various contract-tenants of the court houses, like The District Atty's office, Public Defenders, Probation, etc.

(EDIT: Removed the last three digits' meanings in order to keep internal numbers internal and prevent them from entering the public domain)

The point being that instead of memorizing entire rosters of oft-dialed numbers, one only needed to know the basics of the system to call court room staff in the OC Court system. I don't know if many ever did or if even any know now, but that was the point IIRC.

Anyhow, good chance it may be spoofed, but also a good chance it may be legit.

If there is another phone number for the courthouse listed, maybe on their website, you could give them a call as well on a weekday, and at least find out if you need to get thru to them on that number you received and which department is trying to contact you.

It is good to be alert to scams, I get them frequently, and they also sound very official, from federal agencies to state, to banks, to whatever. Some so persistant saying they are going to charge me with crimes and incarcerate these bones in the local bastile.

I think Diablo Joe, is pretty much right on.
