Hi, Am I crazy to buy a house in Yorba Linda and make my husband commute to work in Long Beach?

ok.... so what kind of commute is that? I am currently not in the area but moving soon to Orange County from the Midwest. Having a hard time with where to live. Yorba Linda looks like what i am looking for. We are a family of 5 and need a min of 3 bedrooms. Our budget can go as high to 1M.

Right now you can get from one to the other in 40 minutes. But right now traffic is exceptionally light and there is hardly any "rush hour." When life goes back to normal...as I hope and trust it will...you can count on 60-80 minutes during peak traffic. Do that twice a day for a while and watch your quality of life diminish.

What are you looking for, and we'll see if we can help you find it closer to Long Beach than Yorba Linda.

The 91 freeway is horrible in the mornings, heading westbound. You're husband will not be happy unless he likes driving bumper to bumper. It could help if he has a vehicle with carpool access or vanpool to get into the carpool lane.

As mentioned before, right now traffic in the LA/OC areas is not normal due to a lot of folks working from home so traffic is lighter than normal.

thank you very much for your insight. Yeah, he would not be happy! yikes!
So as far as a 3 bedroom, low crime with a backyard do you have any suggestions on where to look? Huntington Beach? Irvine?

Lakewood. My sister lived there for many years while her husband was working in Long Beach. It was an extremely easy commute for him. They had two kids and while it's an older area and their house was small (two bedrooms), they had a beautiful big backyard. Never had any problems with crime. They were in the area around Bellflower Blvd. and South St. Of course, there are larger houses there too, but in general you can't expect to get as large of a house around here as you would in the Midwest. Expectations are just different.

In fact, there are fine, safe areas in Long Beach itself. Living close to where you work is one of the secrets to a happy life in SoCal.

You may want to consider Cerritos, Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, or Huntington Beach

My brother did this commute for years, right now he’s commenting from Yorba Linda to Seal beach. He said it’s doable. Much better than commute from YL to El Segundo.
