Gaylord.....

Many of the restaurants can be a mix of Italian, or Mexican, and American.
Listing our fave places for happy hours, drinks and meals, to quality dining, to easy going dives.

Dana Point Area :

Italian :

Lucianas ( fave on Del Prado....excellent experience in all categories )
Brio Tuscany: : We sit at the bar, talk story with the staff and other patrons, great food and drinks and fun) Tables available.
Stellas ( Monarch beach plaza ) Very nice, excellent food, nice lounge, and separate dinning area as well.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Salt Creek ( Monarch Beach plaza ) nice ambiance, good food and drink, friendly , popular, live music
Jacks: on Del Prado....good everything, feels good, super staff, great owner, excellent service food and drinks.
Little Asian Kitchen....Great asian food, and service, in shopping center on Del Prado. Very popular.
Still Water....we like the outside seating, and bar, very friendly, great food and drinks, neat experience
---------------------------------------

Dana Point Harbor

Harbor Grill ( great fresh fish ) Fresh fish, excellent service, great staff, special night out for us.
Harpoon Henrys ( fave, happy hour, good meals, live music )
Turks ( dive bar, easy going , fun on the water )
Jimmys All American Tavern
R.J's Cafe.....breakfast, lunch , dinner ( indoor and outdoor seating )
The Brig.......breakfast lunch, dinner ( indoor and outdoor seating )
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

San Juan Capistrano

El Adobe ( mexican / american ) Very pleasant, excellent food, service, ambiance/ Pleasant and friendly
Cedar Creek ( indoor and outdoor seating ) Mexican / american....super Margaritas, Prime Rib, Mexican dishes, , etc. Fave
Swallows ( dive bar..good fun...high energy Saturday day, rip roaring bands, and good times.

San Clemente:

The Vine....excellent food, drinks, service ( PCH near Del Mar St. )
Fishermans and Little Fishermans, at the Pier, end of Del Mar St.
Beach Fire ( Open air, live music saturday afternoons, up beat fun.

These are a few of the available restaurants that we frequent, there are many others that are
very popular , but we have not been to them, so cannot comment.

We still have more to try, but the above are where we have a good time, and happy dining experiences and keep returning.

KauaiDooley,

Your choices are excellent. I would say you missed Sun-dried Tomato in downtown SJC, and you missed entirely Avila's El Ranchito in San Clemente (200 blk of DelMar, southeast corner of ADM and Ola Vista)

Moving out of the tri-cities area of South OC, don't miss out on North Italia at Michelson/Carlson in Irvine (pasta made fresh!!) or Javier's at the Spectrum. Javier's was best as a hole in the wall in Laguna Beach where Asada was most recently, now they're too hoity-toity and spend. Lumberyard in Laguna across from City Hall is excellent, as are the resort restaurants at The Montage, Ritz, and old St. Regis (Monarch Resort now).

While we are talking OC food, you can't leave out the James Beard winner (pho79 for oxtail pho in Garden Grove) and other nominees like Vaca near South Coast Plaza next to the Performing Arts Center.

I can't believe I missed Mexican. It's my favorite food. Anything Latino? Thoughts on that Anaheim market?

Maybe La Brisas in Laguna Beach, my sister used to get free gift cards from her work and we went there free.

Joe.

Thanks for the additional scoops..... we have passed by sun dried tomato, and will let Erica know, also will advise the admiral of the other recommendations.....always looking for new places .

Newbie, Las Brisas....Wow ! Been many, many years since we have been there, another good plan.

I missed some of our faves in Seal Beach ( not sure of what is open, and Walts has closed permanently, sad. Also Corona Del Mar.....Erica gets some kind of a discount card from
Tommy Bahamas, in Corona Del Mar. We drive up PCH, and while she shops in the ladies garmet dept, I snug up
to the bar, then after her successful mission, we have lunch in the Tommy Bahama's restaurant. Always good, and
upbeat and friendly ambiance. This is during the day.

One thing for sure, in O.C. there are plenty of great places to eat and go out to and a fine selection of many, many different types of menus.

Vaca and North Italia are both definitely good eats.

The Salt Grille in Dana Point

Dukes in Huntington Beach

I have been to OC for quite a bit, and I can only seem to remember two places I eat at. There is this Italian place in Huntington Beach I cannot remember name.

There is this Japanese place near Dana Point Harbor.
