Thanks for the responses all. Doubt it would change much, but how long would I be looking at it was a Yorba Linda or Anaheim Hills to Victorville commute?

I once drove to Lake Elsinore from Dana Point. I took Rte 74. What do you call that again. It was fun driving trip. But boy did the temperature, soar when I got to Elsinore.

You’re only saving about 10/15/20 minutes. On your way back your biggest issue will be 91/55 but you can actually get off and go streets.. Tustin is off 55 and 5. Yorna Linda Anaheim Hills is off 55/91. You’re looking at about 7/8 ish mile difference. Granted I don’t have exact street locations.

Is there a particular reason why you need to be in Tustin or surrounding area?

That's Ortega Highway, and while it is a nice road to drive when you're not in a hurry, it is closed a lot for road work and accidents.

Sure, it would be HELL.

Has anyone done it?

Thanks
Only a psychotic would subject them self to such torture. Unless you're getting your housing for FREE, I wouldn't even consider it. And even then, it would still cost you (your sanity.)

Oh, you're welcome!

Like everyone else has stated, you might look for housing a lot closer to your job. (Or, look for a job a lot closer to Irvine/Tustin area.)

If you do this commute, expect to "wear" a car out every other year.

Maybe you can "work from home" 2-3 days per week?

Even that’s a 40 mile drive...over a mountain pass that occasionally closes in the winter.

As I stated, Victor Valley has 350,000 people. Obv has some nicer areas. I don’t understand why one would subject themselves to such a commute if it’s not absolutely necessary.

It wouldn't be any better, might be like 20 or so minutes difference. Your main enemy here is going to be the 91 and either way you're going to have to deal with it.

I don't know what the 15 is like, but I doubt it's any better. I know that mountain pass can be unpredictable weather-wise though, so there's that to consider also.

Best advice I can give: Move closer to work or look for work closer to where you want to live. Don't attempt either of these commutes, you will drive yourself to madness.

Just move to Victorville then, it’s **** cheap compared to the urban areas of CA at least.
It’s really not the best place to live however, so I can’t blame you for wanting to live somewhere nicer. Maybe look at Redlands?
Fun story, I actually had a classmate in grade 3 who commuted all the way from Victorville because her mom worked in my town, this was in La Habra which is the very northern tip of Orange County.

It sounds like this is a bad idea, but just so I can get an idea of concrete numbers - what would the actual travel time look like from north Irvine to Victorville and Yorba Linda/Brea to Victorville during normal commute hours/non-Covid conditions?
