That's not what I saw. I was just in Dana Point recently, looking at all of the Trump flags on the boats in the marina while waiting to eat at Harpoon Henry's. I wasn't wearing a mask and neither was anybody else. It was kind of refreshing to see so many people with common sense.

Oof. Sorry I posted this. It was not very kind. It's great here, but from what I've seen, the culture is about the same all over the OC, as in people are always on the go and in a hurry. My neighborhood is interesting. There isn't one white family here. That's not good or bad, it just is.

Speaking as a very happy Dana Point resident and answering some of the OP's requests and comments "

Barking dogs : Possible impacts.....

Barking dogs are a nuisance and very disruptive on a constant basis for the rest of us who live in the vicinity. They are untrained dogs, and the owners have not socialized , or trained the dogs In fact, in many instances, the dogs run the house. The dog owners who continue to let their dogs bark have no respect , and just do not care about the other families near by. Pretty simple fix, Put bark collars on the animals, and they will learn to stop their barking. Might also Take some dog obedience training course,
and maybe also meet new friends. Win, win situation.

The other problem here , is many dog owners who do not , and have not trained their animals to heel, and also the leash should be 6 feet, so that the dog owner will have some control over the animals. We constantly see the owners with those 20 ft or more long fishing reel leashes, and they have absolutely no control over the dog. The dog is the pack leader, and the human is being controlled by the dog or dogs.

For the neighbors, the solution to barking or aggressive dogs, is thru Animal Control. A report is filed, and the owner will be contacted by animal control, It that does not work, then a legal process can be initiated to have the animals removed. They advise the neighbor not to approach the dog owner, let the authorities handle it.

And, I am a big time dog lover as i raised dogs for many, many years. They were trained, socialized , obedient happy, well loved not only by our family but other friends and neighbors. No longer have a dog, but I have sort of adopted my neighbors dogs, give them pats and treats. Also, after asking, I enjoy petting peoples dogs that we meet hiking, or walking our beach paths, or trails.

South County People : The people that we meet here, again are mostly friendly, and if you plowed into the planet, twisted an ankle, or were in distress, they would swarm to help you.

We have been long time O.C. residents. A few years ago, we gave all the stuff away and moved to kauai Island, HI, for 10 Years, and loved Kauai and the her people.

We had to move back to the mainland, and selected south county and Dana Point, at the Beach, as our new residence . We love it. We brought our Aloha back with us, and what we have found is that many of the people who live here have Aloha, and don't even know it. So, as to what the people are like, we have found most of them fit, healthy, active, friendly, smiling, and respectful . We really do love it here.

Wearing masks, and following the Covid procedures that come from official health organizations.

The people here are doing a great job. Masks, social distancing, hand washing, sanitizing spray, etc. . We are active and out a lot. We have not seen anyone screaming about masks, or any type of rude or un-ruley behavior. That is where ever we travel , mostly Dana Point, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, and we just took a few day trip up to Julian, in the mountains, same thing there, everyone following the rules. We have a trip out to Borrego Springs planned or a few days ( Thanksgiving ). International sailing trips, and visiting Kauai are on hold.

Beaches:

County beaches : , first come first served, and you pay a parking fee. Get there early, especially on weekends.

Doheny ( Near to Dana Point Harbor ) is a state park beach, and there are more of those. You can get an annual pass ( fee), or a limited season pass ( small fee) . The limited pass is for before memorial day to after labor day.

Those passes are also good for Calif State Parks, as well.

As to relating to people as a new comer, or anyplace on the planet :.

Be respectful, smile, be courteous , and say hello.

"The more things that you have done in life, the easier it is to relate to others in people to people conversations ".

Now, this is how we have lived life, even when starting out a new residents, including Kauai. Never had a problem.

* " Bring your own Aloha with you. " This is every where, In the islands, or mainland, or when on holiday and even in foreign nations or islands.

* Be respectful, and smile, be honest and positive , and do not lie.

* Lay off the politics, and religion. That is for in home discussion for us.

* Another of my sayings. When meeting a stranger " ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SAY HELLO, AND YOU WILL
BE SURPRISED AT HOW INTERESTING THAT PERSON IS, AND HOW MUCH YOU MAY HAVE IN COMMON.

* We enjoy staying healthy, active and fit and love people as well. "Friendship is precious cargo ". So, we join a health club, and are serious about working out, but also we meet new friends from many different walks of life. Some have become lasting friendships. That beast covid has us working out at home nowadays.

* Join a club of some kind that involves what you may like to do. Hiking, biking, dancing, surfing, kayaking, sailing, volunteering to help others, what ever it might be. It will help to make it easy to meet new friends when you already have something in common.

The above is from real life experiences, not social media, and truly hope, perhaps some of the ideas will assist the OP and other new comers moving to OC.
We understand that it it not everyones way, But, it certainly has worked for us.

I’m not an R nor a D, and I didn’t vote for Trump nor Biden, but I did notice that Trump ‘won’ Newport Beach in both 2016 and 2020 (I was curious both years re who ‘won’ because I used to live in Newport Beach).

Republicans took back three House seats from Democrats that were won in 2018. They could win one more seat in 2022, but it depends on how many seats CA loses from the 2020 census/reapportionment.

Actually the city of Tustin would probably love it if we were....then they would get the benefit of our property tax base....there are a lot of very expensive homes here..
