Can States cause problems, Yes. Can congestion be a problem, Yes, can homeless be a problem, Yes, and many other things.

That just means YOU need to find a place, even in CA, without those. That new place may not have some of the things you liked, but it will not have some of the things you hated. If you can't stand that potential new place, check other States. Many good places. Your choice.

kauaidooley's points were good.
I’ve lived and worked in a lot of places in the US. California has a lot to offer. Lots of challenges too. Your life and happiness is what you make of it. When I retire I’ll buy a house out of state and probably split my time between Ca and wherever I buy.

This is a good idea if one can afford it. Selling a home someone has owned for years in CA brings enough cash in to but in another State and have no mortgage and then visit CA in the season that the weather in the new State is not a persons favorite. The savings from selling and buying at a far lower price allows for such trips for years.

I grew up in Newport. Always wanted to move but I like moving around. Initially left and moved to Kauai. Didn't miss CA for a second. Never really thought of it after leaving. Then my son had medical issues and we were flying from HI to CA to see specialists and it became too expensive and timely. We moved back to SD but never intended to stay long since I prefer smaller areas and less crowds. We looked at many, many places to move even international. It took 5 years to find another place that checked all our boxes and we just moved in August and are happy with the decision.

When we were preparing our properties in SD to sell many workers/realtors etc were surprised we wanted to move and asked if we will miss it. Its impossible to know if you will miss a place until you move but so far I haven't missed anything, which was the same as the first time we moved.

What about your experiences? Interested to hear your thoughts on how you can relate to mine. No one ever wants to leave OC even Cali and that was my experience.
You shouldn't hate your parents. You are the child, you aren't paying the bills. They made the choice to move and you need to respect that choice.

Orange County was a lovely place to live and raise our children, but we have all moved away and are very happy in our new places as well.

None of us want to move back, just no compelling reason to, we're happier where we are now.

After growing up there and living there for a few months shy of 44 years, I put OC in my rearview mirror 16 years ago, which is probably fairly close to the year you were born. (forgive me for assuming your age, but you present yourself as very young) I haven't regretted leaving OC for one second. I didn't leave CaliFORNIA though. I won't go to that extreme.

Everything changes. People change, where you grew up changes. Your personal tastes change. And change is the only fact of life that doesn't change.

It's never a good idea to pin everything that's happened in your life on one factor especially if it's one you have no control over. The outcome is that rather than trying to find ways to improve your situation you just get filled with more and more resentment.

Wake up and live in reality. I thought this message was a joke for a second there.

I did too. OP is pinning his entire chance at happiness in life on a short time back in 6th grade. Middle school is such a transient time. To think you're going to "round up the gang" and recreate something that doesn't exist is silly. Time to move on.

Nothing is free in this life and you're not entitled to anything. Want to live in OC comfortably? You better be darn good at something.

Just read the remainder of your post. You are bragging about being popular in 6th grade? 15 years later you still hate your parents for moving you? I'm assuming they moved for financial reasons? Give them a break.
