I was thinking the same thing. Stanton is right up there with Santa Ana. The bar is pretty low here. Maybe North Carolina is just bad ( low paying jobs and depressing in a smaller southern town ) but having left OC for Boston and now Chicago I could never return.

I lived with roommates but my rent was cheap so I saved a lot of money. Didn't want or need my own apartment and I was very happy before Covid.* I stupidly moved to Sac for a job and was there for a few months and hated it so I recently moved back to East Coast to my hometown where my family is and take some time off.* I would have moved back to OC but my old job already hired new people so I couldn't go back.*

Reasons why I wanted to leave OC at the time was because I was starting to get bored and burned out and wanted more space during covid and it was cheaper to get my own place in Sac, but now having left what I failed to appreciate was the weather, beaches and convenience and I realized I should have stayed there longer. I realized since I'm single, don't want or need kids, pets or marriage, etc. I actually don't need more space or to move to a cheaper city and could have just kept renting a room until I retire.

I got a job here on the east coast in North Carolina in my hometown paying slightly more than what I made in OC and have the option to work remotely anywhere in the US.* I am seriously considering to move back since I know some landlords in north OC who would rent me a nice room in their homes.*I could always keep trying to get a job based in OC but there are not many jobs in my field out here and that could take years to find the right job. After moving back east I realized it is just too boring and miserable out here compared to OC.

Would appreciate any advice. I regret leaving OC each day and it was the perfect place for me but is it crazy to move back out there so soon? I have a few friends there and no support system or family. Also I won't have an office here and will be a 3 hour difference in time zones since my work office is on the east coast. I prefer being in an office so my concern is I may feel bored after a while being inside the house all day.
You wanna rent a room in someone’s home? Why not grow up and get your own place?

My take home is about 5000 and I can't imagine spending more than half of income on the rent. Also I prefer to live in a house rather than an apartment. Was saving around 3k per month and wanted to buy a house eventually.

I think I would only really want to move back into my last house I lived in OC, but I don't know when a room will be available there.

The place was in south Stanton and a new development with new houses in a quiet neighborhood. But I think one of the houses on the street was a drug house. Walked by and saw tons of huge monitors inside and always saw low class people coming in and out. Had some stuff stolen out of my car one night but I think I would still move back there.

Sounds like a panacea.

(Self Reminder: DO NOT VISIT So. Stanton!)

I get it, I did the same thing. Moved out there for a work relo, stayed two years, then got homesick and moved back to the East coast. Then kicked myself for not giving it enough time! But I was never able to move back and now I'm old and can't afford it.

Anyway, not sure how old you are but you must be very young if you're willing to live in a room in someone else's house. So if you want to be out there and you're still young, not married, no kids, can keep your job, go for it! If you get bored again (which it sounds like you do pretty easily), move back or wherever else you want to move. But maybe give it more than two years. I think a minimum of three to really assimilate. And don't keep thinking the grass is always greener, embrace your life out there.

I would move to OC tomorrow (if I could talk my husband into it)….BUT part of that is because I have a lot of family & friends there & in LA county. BUT if you were bored with it & the area….AND you don’t have much of a support system with friends or family, why go back especially since you don’t have a good paying job? Who wants to rent a room in somebody’s house?

You say you are bored everywhere you go…so IMO work on creating a life wherever you are now. More friends & a job you love, stuff like that.

I think you accidentally answered your own question with this comment.

You are in a "struggling" time and deep down you know that moving back to OC might not fix anything and it might not be the same as what you had.

This is more of a counseling question than a geographic-preference question - and my gut reaction is to take the geography question off the table for at least a little while, save up some $$ while you are living in a safe if boring place, and take some steps to work on personal growth and goals.

You can do this!
