Has anybody used Gelson’s for catering before…just platters & hors d’oeuvres to have with wine. It would be super informal for a small gathering. I talked with somebody this morning when I was shopping & they have a lot of options…BUT any thoughts or experiences or warnings not to?

You realize we aren't that picky. Just give us a date & time to arrive!

Pot luck, even.

I'll bring the salsa. (I'll make 2 batches. 1 mild and 1 "warmer...")

I've never shopped there because it is so expensive, and the nearest locations are not that close to my house. But if your gathering is "super informal," I'm sure their catering will be fine. The pictures look nice.

Thank you…it’s super close & convenient for us. But I wanted to see if anybody had a bad experience with the catering. This forum is super quiet tho.^^

My friends aren’t picky either….but they are coming from an hour away. I want to serve something super easy but tasty & healthy ofc. AND wine. It’s the 1st time 2 of them will be meeting my husband AND they will be seeing our new home for the 1st time too ofc…other than pictures.

Gelson's MB has always had an excellent deli counter (try that mediterranean bow-tie pasta salad) and excellent produce. The in-house Viktor Bienes bakery has great stuff!! But if you're gonna pick up a bottle of Dawn or beer, then head over to the Ralph's in Ocean Ranch instead.

Love gelsons and we frequently use the service deli for sides when hosting. I believe we also did a whole thanksgiving w/ the them a few years back when our travel schedule was crazy. Not sure about the OC locations, but we've had great experience w/ the Century City, MDR and Flintridge markets.

Wholefoods much better.
You could also try the new Bristol Farms in Irvine. Too bad Erewhon doesn’t like to sell outside LA County.

I really like Whole Foods too…but there are fewer options with catering so I went with Gelson’s for our gathering. Irvine is a little too far out of the way for grocery shopping IMO. There is a Bristol Farms in Newport Beach tho.

Absolutely no way WF is as premium of a market as Gelsons. Bristol Farms? Yes, probably, and bristol farms has an amazing sandwich shop/deli (worth traveling for).
