I recently accepted a job with the option of being based in Thousand Oaks or Mission Viejo. I have visited both areas before and like them both. Wondering which one people would prefer based on safety, cleanliness, accessibility into greater Los Angeles, and just overall

Mission Viejo by far. There is so much more to do in OC and the beaches are closer.

Mission Viejo is a really nice area. (I don't know anything about Thousand Oaks.)

That’s what I was thinking as well. Thank you.

I live in an adjacent city to Mission Viejo. MV is a quiet, safe, family-friendly residential area with good beach and local mountain access. My family loves it here. It is not exciting, though, and it’s a good long drive to LA.

My wife and I have been considering both areas, and we are likely going to go with Mission Viejo. The Conejo Valley, where Thousand Oaks is located, isn't bad by any stretch but it just feels a little more remote and isolated. It just seems kinda ho hum. The factors for us were access to jobs, more restaurant options in OC, rail lines (if we don't want to drive to San Diego and Santa Barbara), and easier to get to the beach.

I think Mission Viejo is the winner. Thank you for your insights.

Since no one has commented on Thousand Oaks, I'll throw my two cents in. The areas are quite similar. MV is closer to Irvine than TO is to Woodland Hills, but both cities have a single freeway which can get very congested. MV also has easier airport access. Having said that, beach access is quite similar, but TO is behind a mountain, so it's likely a bit warmer in the summers. The biggest difference is the people. Demographically, the areas are likely similar on paper, but TO and surrounding cities have a very large Jewish population. Because of this, TO will lean much more democrat compared to the republican leaning MV and South OC area.
