If you had to decide between moving to San Diego, Orange County or Houston TXusing the criteria listed below, which one would you pick and why? It would really help if you could elaborate on each criteria. Thanks in advance for your comments! (Note - I am in IT and so most probably my new job would be in San Diego downtown, Irvine or Houston downtown)

Housing (rent vs. own 2 BR condo)
Leisure activities
Cultural options
IT Job growth
Weather
Commute time
Health care access
Beaches
Education
Crime

Orange County
I live in San Diego county and it isn't that great. If you can afford OC then go there before SD County.

One of my best friends moved out of Phoenix and went to Houston, about the same time I moved to OC.

He *hates* Houston and is moving to OC asap. Houston is seriously overcrowded, traffic is horrific, and it's dirty and ugly. But on the plus side, it's a very friendly city.

As for OC vs. SD, I chose OC, as it simply has more to offer. You're an hour from either SD or LA and OC itself has an endless variety of things to do, and it's easily the most beautiful part of California. Yes, it can be more expensive than SD depending on where you live, but to me it's worth it.

OC is also the most friendly place I've ever been, something I can't say for SD which seems to be full of a lot of the same LA wannabes that ruined Phoenix.

1 OC. 2 San Diego. 3. Houston.

Orange County has close to as much or more to do than the others. The weather, shopping, landscaping, and beaches are fantastic. People are also pretty friendly. Pace of life seems slower in much of OC than in SD or Houston. Overall, the quality of life is very high.

San Diego is one of the best cities in California. It's not too overcrowded (yet), and real estate is cheaper in general than in OC. People are rather friendly, as well, especially for being CA's 2nd largest city. It's a safe city, but not as safe as Orange County.

Houston has friendly people as well, but the air quality is horrible. and beaches? Bluntly said, I would not consider moving there.

Houston is ass. The only people I know that like it there are the ones who are FROM there and have never left the state of TX.

I've been there, too. It's not nice.

You sit on the freeways there for hours just trying to get to work...

Now was that a nice thing to say about Texas? If you travel around Texas and California you will find out the the states are alot a like in land...Just that Texas has alot more of that land...

I've been to both and they are both nice....

Health care access

Housing....my son and daughter-in-law bought a new 2 bed room condo with in walking distance of downtown Houston 2 years ago for $160,000.00
Leisure activities....lots
Cultural options....you name it Houston has it downtown...
IT Job growth....don't know
Weather...can go down to the 20's in the winter and upto the high 90's in the summer
Commute time...depends on how far you are from work...I worked 27 miles from work and if took me approx 35 min..but that will depend on your work hours..
Health care access...One of the worlds greatest medical centers, my daughter-in-law works there and it takes her 10 minutes to get to work, my daughter is an RN and she works for one of the bigger hospital systems here and she loves it..
Beaches....Galveston island is about 50 miles from downtown Houston lots of open beaches, Texas has the open beach law, and there are many others in Texas...
Education....University of Houston, Rice University and many more..
Crime....I'd say like any big city we have it...but you will learn where not to live and not go...just as in California...

I hope this was some help...

That's bull. At least half the city must be from somewhere else originally. It's got the 3rd most number of foreign consulates in the country for crying out loud.

I like it and I'm not even a Texas native.

If you think it's so awful, at least give good reasons to back up your claim.

Traffic is bad, but the other negatives? Sounds like a description of the industrial east side. Why do people have to generalize that area to the entire city....

Orange County, without a doubt is the best out of the three in my opinion. But it depends on what you are looking for. Texas (where I live now) is hot and humid in the spring thru summer months. Hot and sticky and with that, you get all those nasty bugs (and they all seem to bite), and it's cold in the winter months. So it depends on what you are looking for and wanting in your new location.
