Isn't it enough that everyone in OC dresses the same and drives the same car?

However now OC parents, have to all buy the $1,000 Bug-A-Boo Stroller?

We are new parents, and I find it sicking that so many people tend to buy these things just so they can stroll around Fashion Island without any worries of judgment. Yes we could buy one too, but it is dorky to look like everyone else for the sole reason of status quo.

Buy a Graco, it is just as nice. You people(Bug-A-Boo Owning DB's) are corrupting my wife's mind, I am sending her back to the Bay Area for therapy.

DOWN WITH THE BUG-A-BOO's!

I feel for you!

On a positive note, if your little one is still stroller bound at least he/she is not clamoring for top of the line this, that, and everything because: everyone has/wears/carries/drives one dad, I'll never fit in without it ... yet!

Although I guess if your wife is on the edge and close to succumbing to the Bug-A-Boo pressure you'll have to dress the little one appropriately for his/her ride.
I saw a table of True Religion jeans in the kiddie dept at Nordstrom just yesterday, nothing smaller than a 2T though, sorry.

BTW, The line-up leaving my neighborhood this morning heading for the elementary school drop-off:
mercedes, lexus, lexus, lexus, hyundai (that's me)

Good Luck!

Axiom,

Congrats on driving a practical car and thank you for the sympathy.
It is for that reason I will not buy a European Car either, I'll drive my Honda.

Oh man I gotta get my kids out of here before they start the:
"everyone has/wears/carries/drives that" routine.

Is there anyway to save our children from the OC glam patrol? I am afraid my wife is drifting towards the dark side, she wants to buy our kids clothes at Neiman Marcus or some crap. Kids get dirty I am not buying them 160.00 jeans!

What part of OC is that?

The funny thing is- many Hyundais have the same body style as the expensive luxury cars and cost $20,000 less.. haha

You guys make me laugh. Have you ever considered that it isn't where you live that matters? We've lived in some expensive places to live in the country (Palm Beach, FL, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and now OC) and my kids don't do the whole "everyone has/wears/carries/drives that" routine with me. They get to try it once. And only once. Not everyone in OC reports to the glam patrol or the foreign auto patrol. If you have good values, you will give your kids good values and it doesn't matter where you live. Hopefully, your wife will figure out that the crap from Neiman Marcus is the same crap that you can buy anywhere and it's a waste to buy it for a baby who's only going to wear it a couple of times--it doesn't even pay for itself.

Here, here--it IS the parents. Plastic parents breed plastic children. The kids don't just get it school--it gets reinforced at home. Teach your children at home and they'll have the will to love who they are, appreciate what they have, and the eloquence to tell the plastic kids at school to shove it. ^_^

Oh we have a newborn on the way, it is not even about school...It is my wife and the crooked group of wolf ladies she runs with.

She used to hate shopping and now that is all she does here. OC has eaten my wife!

Maybe you should talk to your wife... she'll probably be the one of the largest influences your baby. Women are really good at slowly and secretly converting others to their ways of thinking... and that's what the wolves are doing to her right now.

Think of other things you can do with your wife to spend that extra fun money, or awaken new interests in her to get her involved with different (and hopefully unwolfy) women--scrapbooking, hiking, biking, swimming, softball, volleyball, gardening, painting, singing, walking/running, volunteering, knitting, whatever.

Just because you guys can afford it, doesn't mean she has to buy it... good luck on that--may the force be with you! ^_^

We're outside the gates, but not far from Coto De Caza.

5FLgirls,
I actually agree with you, but I think it certainly helps to be firmly grounded. My daughters' former high school got the nickname "Mt. Rich" for a reason. It was in a very wealthy area, but she says it was nothing like Tesoro in OC as far as kids wanting to drive the right car, wear the right clothes, carry the right designer bag, etc. etc.
