Dear all,

First I am a french citizen and not fully fluent in english. So sorry for the fault, mispelling and others...
I am currently considering a job in newport beach and read a lot of emails/discussions about LA, OC and others.
My first impression is that if you have money, you can have a safe and very nice life style. Am I right?
I also got the impression that CA become less and less attractive because of increase in crime (specially in LA) and increase of tax and housing price. others express also some stress about immigration.
Is is the case? Does more and more people leave CA?
I understood that politics (democrat vs republican) is a key question. I have my own view, but never speaks about politics and religion. I definitively believe it is a source of tension. Will I be ask to discuss them by my neighboors/colleague?
It seems that peoples are segregated by race. IS it really the case? Does it mean that each area is a form a "ghetto".
I plan to leave not so far from my employer (Newport BEach). I am looking for safety (especially for my family), nice place and social life and activities. Any advice about the perfect location? Even if the cost of renting is not the first driver of my decision, if i can save money , i would be happy :-)

As a conclusion, will you advise me to come to California and especially NP?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Michel,

If you can afford Newport Beach, you can expect a quality of life that is second-to-none. It is a very clean and safe area. In general, it is a pretty laid-back place(not very stressful). Many families relocate here specifically for the good schools, and safe environment.

The area has roughly 36,000 registered Republicans and 12,000 registered Democrats. If you have social views that the rich are greedy, yuppy, or snobby, you will most likely not like Newport Beach. You will also NOT be urged to share your political views. The average home price is about $1.3 Million. There are very minimal options for those with low-incomes besides in parts of Costa Mesa. Newport Beach is represented by Republicans in the local government, but on the otherhand is under the influence of liberal state politics.

Newport Beach is a very showy place. People here express their wealth in terms of style, an automobile, and housing. If you are contemplating moving here, you should also be comfortable with that.

California is a state of extremes. In parts of California, people build mansions down the street from homeless encampments. You will not like everywhere you go. You will come to love and hate California.

Smile living in newport beach

hi having just moved here well Irvine, i think n.b. is nicer but yes you will have to have money and a good car that is very important to Americans if you have it show it. however your neighbours will not rush to meet you unlike Europeans they are not friendly the beaches are good and so is the skiing. You have to make a life here.
