How is Lido Island in Newport, anyone live or lived there before? I'm 27 and was looking at a house around that area. Do a lot of old people live there?

very expensive but the downtown area (i guess that would be balboa island) is kind of old surferish like seal beach. that said, if you can afford to live there its a great place to live(who doesnt want beachfront property?)

Awesome place to live, close to the beach, bars, non-chain restaurants.
Very exclusive and expensive.

If you can afford to live there, it is a great place to live. Very exclusive and beautiful. There are a lot of older residents but a lot of vacation rentals as well, so there is always an influx of new people.

There's also an area next to Lido Island called "Lido Peninsula" that has some inexpensive manufactured homes on lease land that you can "buy" for under $400K... I put "buy" in quotes because the land is lease-land that has a limited life left on the land lease. Ooo! That was fun to say and write!

That listing is on Lido Peninsula... if you're the gambling type who thinks the lease might get extended after its up in x amount of years, check it out... otherwise, the rest of Lido is fairly expensive.

My brother in law and his fiance live on Lido Island. It is a great area of Newport and he sure is living the resort life. I'm not sure if I would call him "Old Money" because my husband and his brothers were poor during childhood. He is in his 50's now though and his neighbors on either side are in their 50's and 60's. When we visit (which isn't often) we enjoy strolling through and looking at the beautiful houses. It is quiet right in the neighborhood, but as you head back over the bridge there are lots of interesting shops and places to eat. If you can afford it, it is one of the best areas!

OK I've got to say it.

I wish I'd had the "problem", at age 27, of thinking about living on Lido Isle and my main concern was that my neighbors would be old.

When I was about 27 years ago, I was there for a short time. THe neighbors wewre old people and stars. There was some basketball player a few doors down that constantly had loud crowded parties and his guests blocked the street with their fancy cars. It was a mess.

However in general, it is a nice place. Lido Village is a wlakable distance so you can walk to almost everything that you need. That is a very nice advantage. Not too many people know about it so you do not get a lot of tourists or people from outside the community. So the only jerks that you have to deal with are any that happen to be your neighbors. Parking for guests was terrible. Hard to entertain there. I enjoyed it expcet for dealing with the Laker jerk (cannot remember his name, one of their best known players in about 1989 - 1990).
