What are the differences and similarities between the two, you think?

My Take: *having been to both

Similarities:

-votes Republican

-a warm dry coastal climate & lots of beaches

-a large population of nearly 3 million people

Differences:

-San Diego has a huge military population, highest in the world

-Orange County has way more diverse demographics, including a large number of Asians

-People in SD have a list of types of people in which they hate (eg: hippies), while the OC is less judgmental

-People in SD tend to be into football, guns, and trucks; OC is more of a fun loving & laid back

-San Diego (north county) is socially conservative, OC tends to only be fiscally conservative

-San Diego is wealthier and higher class, generally better looking neighborhoods

-San Diego still has a lot of undeveloped areas, including coastal areas

San Diego is more relaxed, has less traffic, and the overall feeling is more a casual lifestyle.

My take having lived in both for multiple years, San Diego (Little Italy), OC (Newport Beach and Irvine) and I have lived in Long Beach (Belmont Shores) if you want the LA take too..

I doubt San Diego will be Republican this time around, it was very close last time 46.4%Kerry-52.6%Bush. Orange County was 39/57

OC also has way more segregation IMO.
There are hardly any Black People in OC at all 1.72% in OC, 7.5% in SD

-People in SD have a list of types of people in which they hate (eg: hippies), while the OC is less judgmental

Totally disagree, SD has way more hippies and less conservatives than OC does, much more a surfer mentality and Santa Cruz way of life in SD. South OC reminds me of a big Country Club, North OC more hipsters like L.A. has.

-People in SD tend to be into football, guns, and trucks; OC is more of a fun loving & laid back

Disagree again, OC is more about money, SD is more about fun and enjoying life.
In OC the first thing people ask is "what do you do for work"...in SD it is "Do you surf?"

-San Diego (north county) is socially conservative, OC tends to only be fiscally conservative

Are you only talking North SD County? Because South SD county is much more liberal than anything in OC/.

-San Diego is wealthier and higher class, generally better looking neighborhoods

Depends, SD has more historical, culture filled neighborhoods (Mission Hills for example, there is nothing in OC that can compare), I would say OC is wealthier and far more superficial.

-San Diego still has a lot of undeveloped areas, including coastal areas
Also don't forget San Diego County has a major city, has Mexican culture embedded in it, rich downtown and harbor areas.

OC is pretty, cleaner overall, and nicer outdoor parks. But San Diego has much more to offer culturally, more nightlife, more diversity amongst classes..more of about everything. Except jobs, jobs are better here in Irvine.
