I have a job that is super strict about its dress code. I do wear nylons with all dresses and skirts, but is it really necessary?

The only time in a Bank environment that you should wear nylons is over your head!

Knowing ahead that it has a rigid dress code, and if you didn't notice during the interview, I would wear the nylons, and pay attention all that day to whether others are.
I didn't see anything saying it was a bank environment, but you might go to another bank and check it out. I'd rather wear them in the AC, than give them a chance to tell me how to dress. Just my thoughts...Good luck with the job.

I haven't seen a woman in CA wear nylons since the late 80s. :-)

BofA requires it of all female employees who wear skirts to work--and trouser socks, for pants, too.

The were about to start enforcing it at the in-store i worked at... luckily I quit before then. I HATE pantyhose! >_<

My wife and I are east coast transplants of ten years.

The difference between what each coast does in terms of dress is many times quite significant. Many east coast companies never permitted bare toes and ask that their employees 'dress for business.' Here in so Cal, dressing for most everything is much mores casual and accepted.

The state shoe here is the flip flop. We recently went to a mid-morning funeral for a friend. The majority of those who went to the funeral wore shorts and comfortable shoes...sandals, running shoes, and short sleeved shirts.

As someone else stated, check out your environment for a while to see what is accepted and what isn't.

Even in the schools, the dress code for adults is quite casual. Nylons are not something that is seen, teachers wear loose fitting and comfortable clothing, and dress down Friday is spreading backwards through Thursday, Wednesday, etc.

As to , "is it really necessary?" I guess it is if it means whether they keep you or not.

Good luck.

Yup--the academic dept I work for at UCI is really laid back. I think I pretty much wear flip flops everyday to work. Even the professors aren't generally gussied up for class once the first week of school is over...
