We're considering moving from the east coast (Phily area) to OC for a possible job in Riverside. I've heard that Yorba Linda is a reasonable commute distance, but don't know much about living there. Any perspective--good and bad?

It's a little warmer than most OC cities, being one of the most inland cities(if not the most).

More or less a typical affluent suburban city, but a fully developed and established one(I would say most of the houses I've seen are of the early to mid 70s era, stucco with a decent yard, etc). There are more recently developed areas in the hills.

They have strong child sports programs and I believe the public school district is held in good regard

It's a fine area with good schools. You might even get to see John Force and his world famous drag race team running around.

I lived in YL for many years, and it's a great town. It's a 30 minute or less drive to Riverside. the 91 freeway sucks, but you would be going in the right direction to miss the bad traffic.

i went to elementary school and jr. high in yorba linda and it was a nice place for a kid to grow up. however, it is rather secluded and quite a ways from the beach, leaving limited opportunities for older kids and college aged people. you have to drive nearly 20 minutes to get just about anywhere, since freeway access can be difficult depending on which part of town you live in. however, within a 20-30 minute drive (depending on traffic of course) you can reach the brea mall, cal st. fullerton, downtown fullerton, disneyland, angel stadium, and a number of other places. If you hit all the green lights and there is no traffic, you might even be able to make it down to the beach in 30 minutes.

If you like YL, you will probably also like Anaheim Hills, its southern neighbor. Its very similar to YL except Anaheim Hills has some "extreme wealth" that YL lacks. Other than that, they are pretty similar.

Almost correct. Anaheim Hills and YL are pretty much on par as far as wealth. The high rent district is Peralta Hills, next door to Anaheim Hills, and also part of Anaheim...
Peralta Hills - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
That is where you find the multi-million dollar dumps...
