I have read many great/bad comments from people living in Southern California about a variety of issues, mainly housing costs. What do European Immigrants living there think of the cost of living compared to their home country?? I want to move to O.C and looking at Real Estate websites, housing is equally expensive here in England. Any Euros that can give their perspectives on standard of living there would be appreciated.

I have friends here who moved over from England and Ireland, they said it is a even trade or better here. Taxes are less here.

You are much better off in fiscally conservative OC(yet still in a liberal state) than in socialist Europe. That's a sure thing.

ian,

take advantage of the dollar rate and make the move...

i looked at moving the family over for the last 5 years, and finally took the plunge december last year and bought a house in laguna niguel when the dollar was 1.95 to the pound. you will get 2.00 dollars to the pound at the moment.

we exchanged a 2,100 sq ft house in scotland for a 3,100 sq ft house in oc, and have benefited by $400K by selling our uk property for 1.5 million usd and buying in oc for 1.1 million usd.

we are 2 miles from the beach, in a lovely gated community, in an architect designed house, and fantastic neighbors (organised a block party for our welcome party)...

the only downside for us is the lack of 'national health', but to be honest the old nhs in the uk is so poor at the moment, i am sure that it is not much of a benefit anymore (imho).

we move over 2nd may, less than 2-weeks now...
