You can have friendly neighbors, or unfriendly neighbors anywhere in the country. You can usually get a good idea of the ages & social aspects of neighborhoods by driving through at different times of the day. If there are a lot of basketball hoops, or bicycles & toys in the yards, you can bet there are kids near by!

There is quite a wide choice of house styles and sizes and $ prices, but Mission Viejo has a lot to offer for almost anyone. (There is also a senior 55 & over community that is very nice.)

I don't know the goods or the bads and I'm sure there are some of both. Mission Viejo was way past my time and I have to laugh everytime it's brought up. In my day it was open pasture and that was it! The only thing near it was a date shake stand on Hwy 1. In fact, the land was once part of Rancho Mission Viejo on which I worked as a ranch hand back in the 60s and we grazed cattle there.

That's not been my experience, but I suppose anyone who is into what area is "more prestigious" vs another might see things I don't. Or think they do.

"more prestigious" and "cultured" are euphemisms for "I'm better than you."

Being a snob is looking down upon someone because he or she does not drive a BMW or Mercedes.

Prestige describes a city where median household incomes are high. The higher the median household income, then the more prestigious the city is.

Nah! The more expensive and cloistered it is.

Lived in Mission Viejo for almost my entire life and growing up there was the best experience I think a kid could have. Very safe, very family friendly, clean streets, nice people. You also get access to the Mission Viejo Library which is a beautiful building with an excellent catalog. The lake is very clean. You can fish and rent all types of boats from kayaks and row boats to large party boats. My parents would rent a party boat and bring a bucket of KFC along and eat dinner on the lake. Great memories. I have nothing but good things to say about Mission Viejo.
