I have never tried but is this even possible? I tried using Google Maps public transit option and it told me the fastest option from Irvine to LAX would take 4hrs and 43mins Guess I would reach LAX faster if I just bicycled there

Guess I will take the Supershuttle

Why is it so hard to have some decent public transportation here in Southern California considering we pay some of the highest taxes in the nation...

Take Metrolink or Amtrak from Irvine or Tustin Station to Los Angeles Union Station and then connect to the Flyaway LAX Bus ($4). It should take 2 hours. Don't trust Google Maps yet because it doesn't have all transit agencies.

The Flyaway Bus is very popular in Los Angeles and has excellent reviews: http://www.lawa.org/welcome_LAX.aspx?id=292

The problem is getting to the Metrolink station I could take a cab but last time I took a cab it cost me $50 to go 10 miles due to being stuck in endless traffic, I don't want to do that again! Considering that the supershuttle costs only about 50 or 60 bucks all the way to LAX it is pointless to partially take a cab anyway

Well I'm not sure where you live so I can't be of much help there as far as getting to a station. IMO the OCTA as a suburban transit agency isn't very effective in the Irvine area or South OC. However, perhaps you can take an OCTA bus if you live near one that runs to a Metrolink station. Check OCTA and look at the system map to see if one goes near your house.

Also remember that a Super Shuttle often does stop along the way at multiple homes to keep a full van. So you might drive to three homes in Irvine, one in Costa Mesa, and get off and pick someone up in Huntington Beach before you go to LAX. Sometimes this adds 40+ minutes to what would be a straight drive.

Didn't know about that, thanks Charles. Little bit expensive at $50 roundtrip, but if you would be parking at LAX for over a week, it probably is less expensive than parking.

50$ roundtrip is about the same I pay one way from JFK to Manhattan for a taxi

One thing we've done in the past (when we took a two week family vacation) is rent a car one way in Thousand Oaks, drop it off at LAX - go on vacation - and rent a one way car back. If the trip is long enough (at least a week), then the two one way rentals may be worth it.

Standard one person fare from SNA to LAX is $88. Thus $50 sis not bad. Those shuttles can be awful. They run all over the place picking people up and then run all over dropping them off. It can easily take 3 hours by shuttle. But it is a bit cheaper. How much is your time worth?
