I myself couldn't imagine why someone rents at Irvine. its not just like NY where the alternative is traveling more than an hour by train

with the rent you pay at Irvine, that's monthly amortization already in Lake Forest, Mission Viejo or RSM

I can understand the predicament of a single mother I know, who rented an apartment in front of a school but that is to make sure that she doesn't have to drop and pick up her kids
60-70k for many. Not a small chunk of change, but when you're talking about a single 20-something in Irvine it certainly dries up fast. Some do commute from Lake Forest but the majority speak of life in Irvine.

I'm pretty sure with 70k you can rent in Irvine and finance a BMW.

What you're not seeing is that many of these kids probably come from well off families.

If they're in my situation that means: no college debt, on family cell phone plan, and an annual tax free gift up to the max amount allowed by the IRS.

Renting a place for 2000 a month and a car payment of 1000 is certainly possible especially if rent gets split with someone.

Not enough to buy an A8.

For 2014 and 2015 it is $14,000.

You can gift more than that, but then it will no longer be tax free.

I'm pretty sure he gets around 25k a year. Whatever Audi he bought, it had an 8 cylinder engine in it.

If I was getting 14k a year gifted to me it would have been 1000 times easier for me to buy my place. I could have gotten a much bigger place to boot.

And then imagine if you had a spouse who also gets 14k. And then your spouse's parents give each of you 14k.

That's up to 56k a year.
