I'm thinking about moving to Orange County (Aliso Viejo) in August. Is that area is pretty racially diverse? I've read some mixed reviews some say it's just a bunch of racists and others say it's a cultural mixing pot there, so I don't know which one is true. I'm pretty much looking for an area where I won't be the only minority and the crime rate is low. Need some recommendations please

You need not worry about being the only minority here. While OC is not as diverse as LA for example, it does have many minorities. You will not feel out of place and people here are not normally racist.

Though there is a heavy percentage of whites in OC, there is some diversity as well. I've attached a screenshot that I just took of some demographic data that is current as of 1Q08 at the block level. "Primarily" indicates that one ethnic group is at least 10% more of the population in that block then the next group. It might be difficult to see (even on the full size image if you click on the thumbnail), but there are some concentrations of Asians and Hispanics in Aliso Viejo as well as some areas that are ethnically diverse.

Good luck in your move!

Orange County is not predominantly white and has not been so for several years. Here are the real facts, as well as demographic charts and graphs, from the OC Register...

This information is really interesting. My family may be relocating to the Newport Beach/Irvine area from Boston and I am pretty worried. I am of South Asian descent and my husband is white and our kids have my coloring. We are not Christian, very liberal and fear we really won't fit in. Actually, we could care less about us fitting in, but don't want our two kids to be feel that unless they basically act as white as possible, they won't really fit in. Can someone tell me if in the Irvine public schools, like many in Massachusetts, there's a line of NOT celebrating Christmas in school (with concerts or decorating wreaths in school, or having Xmas parties?). I need honest responses please.

Thanks so much!
