Perhaps there is something in Santa Ana's water supply that compels its otherwise upstanding citizens to commit more crimes against one other than, say, the citizens of Irvine.

Actually I do feel safer in the blighted areas of Los Angeles than in Santa Ana. What I get the most are those who are looking for prostitutes. I get hit on by an average of 5 every day when walking to the Civic Center Library. I've had as many as 19.

Interesting that all the johns almost always stay in their cars and use the come-on asking if I want a ride. One who did this at a donut joint on 17th exposed himself to me at 2 in the afternoon before scrambling away. I would have taken down his license plate but he only had the sticker in the back for a new vehicle purchase. Rarely does one get out of the car to try to talk. The Santa Ana johns are basically chicken.

Those Johns are from Irvine. They just assume that every female in Santa Ana is a prostitute becuase they hear such things about Santa Ana.

If they get arrested, it should go on the records as an Irvine crime, not a Santa Ana crime.

I guess the sense of relative anonymity on the net makes it safe to admit that this happens to one........

My neighbor works for the city of Santa Ana. If it gets dark he and other city workers have to be escorted through parts of area to the parking garage because people get knives and guns pulled out on them all the time. As for the Assumption of the Ethnicities on the knife pulling... it would be a very small marginal chance if it wasn't latino considering the cities population. It's not to say that all latinos are going to rob you... but that's the majority of the it's population and local gangs.

By that reasoning, all the cars stolen and houses burglarized by SA residents in surrounding cities should be counted as crime in SA.

Actually, most of those who hit on me like that are Latinos who are immigrating to California. They are often accustomed to seeing street hookers where they used to live and haven't fully adapted to life in Orange County.

haha, exactly.

There is a reason Santa Ana has the lowest median home price in OC!

Santa Ana is a city and like any city in the US it has some rime. It has bad people and good people and in between people. As a whole, the city has slightly less crime than most American Cities of simlar size. it is (or was last year) just above the average (meaning a slightly lower crime rate than the average for American cities of simlar size). The biggest crime was car theft.

My wife and daughters never had this problem walking around Downtwon Santa Ana. My female co workers do not have this problem. The wives and daughters of my friends who live in Santa Ana do not have this problem.

I do not doubt that it is happening to you, but it is not the norm. There must be some reason why they are picking on you.

Perhaps it is the way you are dressed. Or perhaps you are extraordinarily good looking. My wife's niece stayed with us while exploring modeling options in LA and she got howled at a few times or yelled at from a car (but she could never understand what they were saying), sometimes young men would follow her in a car as she walked somewhere (until she started taking our 170 pound dog along); and she did have a young woman come to the door and ask her if she was bisexual. However she is the only person that I know of out of perhaps 50 to 100 women that I know who live or work in Santa Ana who have mentioned this issue as an ongoing problem. On the other hand, when this particular young woman went to a resturaunt or bar with us, the conversation would stop and all of the men would stare rudely. Clusters of young men would suddenly find reasons to stand near our table. She is amazingly good looking (luckily, she now has a job that requires her to carry a gun). If you are cursed with similar amazing good looks, it would explain things.

There are certain areas where hookers tend to congregate. I have been offered their "services" on occaisions while walking in those particular areas (once even when walking with my wife), but most of downtown is either empty at night or has a few normal people around. Frankly in those areas where the hookers congregate, I tend to think that any woman alone is probably a hooker. Although I will avoid her rather than proposition her. If you walk alone in those areas, you may get mistaken for a hooker by anyone. The main area that I encounter hookers is Fourth Street just East of Main; sometimes downtown accross from the Civic Center in the park area where they feed homeless people and formerly near Norms and Ranch Market on Main Street near 17th, however that area seems to have been cleeaned up years ago.

Just out of curiosity, how do you know that they are latinos who are immigrating to CA and not Latinos who have lived here for decades? I cannot tell the from a casual conversation difference since some immigrants and even second or third generations refuse to assimilate. Do you ask them?
