Remember you do nto need as large a home in Ca as in some areas. You have less, and smaller clothing. No need to store seasonal clothing. and you spend more time outside. For about a year, we did not have a diningroom table, so we just at outside 90% of the time. Of course the reason that we did not have a diningroom table was that we could not afford one immediately after we bought our first home.

Thank you all for your advice and input. Sorry I haven't had a chance to respond but I've had a bit of traveling to do!

Sorry I said "Cali" I was just being lazy and figured it was an acceptable term. By the way, I did live in "Indy" (Indianapolis) and it was never an issue to call it that.

I appreciate your advice. I think I have a bit to think and then make the call. I forgot to mention, I DON'T have to move. This is all for a supposed improvement in career and way of life. But that said, It doesn't sound like overall this would be an improvement... I also have two other opportunities knocking on the door (one in FW, another one in Austin). I always liked the thought of California because I've been there and it's beautiful and people seem very laid back, etc.

Thanks again!

Move to California, you won`t be sorry.
Why would you need a 3000+sq ft home in a hot and humid place like Keller?
Financially you won`t be better off in California but the weather, opportunities, lifestyle (mountains and beach 45 minutes from eachother) makes up for it.
Granted the economy is bad now in California but this is all over US and the world.
Again, if you`re getting a raise financially is a wash between TX and CA

I would suggest renting here for the first year. You can easily rent a very nice home in one of the South OC communities mentioned, see if you like the neighborhood, etc., and then try to buy an affordable home. I think $140K is doable for South OC, but you will need to downsize your vision of ideal home as far as square footage, etc. Honestly, I'd rent..prices are still coming down. We recently bought and I still wish we'd rented even a bit longer!
