Ever tried driving from HB to Irvine by taking Edinger all the way down, it goes through Santa Ana and then to Irvine when you hit Irvine Center Drive?

Mapquest says it would take around 30 min but I'm guessing it would be longer?? What would be faster, rush hour in the 405 S going to Irvine or taking inside streets (Edinger all the way down)?

I've done it in the evening and its a long, slow, route. There's so much traffic that it takes 2-3 lights to get through several intersection in Santa Ana. Maybe morning it different.

How long did it take? Longer than an hour?

Its been a while but it could be, depending on your exact start and end points. I would typically go from around Culver/I5 to the middle of Fountain Valley and 45-60 minutes sounds about right in 5pm traffic going west. Going further into Irvine or HB is going to take longer, but the really tough part is through Santa Ana. I found Segerstrom to be a better route. Not a ton better, but some.

Warner is a good road because it's wide open up until you hit the eastern end of SA, but then you gotta work your way to Irvine, which is the hard part. Edinger is too busy

That seems very boring, and long. Why would you even try that?

I used to drive from Southwest HB (Bushard & Atlanta) to Mater Dei HS in Santa Ana (Bristol & Edinger) back about 15 years ago when I was going there. It would take me 20-25 minutes each way in the morning so double that drive and that's how long it'd take you to get to Irvine from HB driving only on streets. That's one long drive.

I dunno I thought it would be faster than going on the 405 during rush hour. I guess not.

Yeah it's not. Anything that crosses through Santa Ana is going to suck.

I tried doing Harbor all the way through from Fullerton to Costa Mesa one time, and it really sucked.

I've taken Warner from Irvine (where it sort of dead-ends on Red Hill) all the way to HB once. It took FOREVER, but I went that way due to a huge accident on the freeway and I had to get to HB. I think it took about 75 minutes. In clear freeway conditions, it would have taken about 30 minutes to get to HB from Irvine.

You would also take Jamboree to PCH and take PCH up. Much prettier of a drive. I have driven that way tons of times, but only when going to/from Newport. Never needed to stay on PCH to hit HB.

You could also take tons of other routes since everything is pretty well connected from city to city. This is when it pays to know your CA side-streets!
